If the airline is offering a meal with the ticket, you can request upon making the reservation, the kind of meal you want. They have it for diabetics, vegetarians, and all religious diets at no extra cost. I doubt that they will give you a discount for not eating the food they give.

Cheaper air fare is what you want. Most people would like something to eat when they are traveling. I love what ever they serve even if it's nuts. I love flying so the meal is just a plus to me.

Personally I too like the meals served in flights whatever it is...it is something that helps pass the time and I kind of feel good eating the different kind of meals...but I was also thinknig of many business travellears or short distance travellers who really do not need a meal and thus can do good by being spared the extra charge for the meal...

Yes, but the only cheap transatlantic carriers I can think of do serve meals, and you can't opt out of paying for them. Which ones were you thinking of? It would be nice to find at least one.
