ear popping 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I have sensitive sinuses, so take offs in particular seem to be very hard on my ears. I have tried chewing gum, chewing anything, but it only helps a little. Is there anything else I can do?

I would love to know if there is something better also. I have tried the gum and it really doesn't seem to work.

Yawning is helpful in activating the muscles that open the eustachian tubes, apparently it is more effective than swallowing. Have a look at ths _link_ for more information http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/ask_the_doctor/earspopping.shtml

Yawning does help a little, but I have to force myself to do it repeatedly before to makes a difference.

sucking on a hard sweet always worked for me.. I remember when i was very young and travelled by plane, the hostesses would go round with a big tray of sweeties before take off..

These days, pressure shouldn't be such an issue.. Perhaps your doctor can suggest something..

Lindsey, If it is a real problem to you it may be worth seeing your doctor because I believe that decongestents can be helpful in opening the tubes, but there may be other things that could help too.
