10 Tips for Safe Holiday Travels
Tuesday, 14 December 2010
When traveling during the holidays, travelers can face a whole host of issues not present during the summer months. These issues are mostly weather-related and since many leisure travelers, 60%, take road trips this time of year, there are a few things that they must be aware of in order to help keep them safe.

First of all, travelers should understand the differences between the various winter weather advisories so that they know the difference between a weather watch and warning and they know when to stay off the road. Travelers should also make sure their car is stocked with emergency rations and equipment, including a shovel, first aid kit, ice scraper, jumper cables, sand of cat litter, a broom, and other safety equipment.

Travelers should be sure to let someone know their travel route and timetable and they should drive slowly and ensure their gas tank is always filled up. Also, be sure that the windshield wipers and lights are working properly and carry spare batteries or chargers for mobile phones. Should a traveler get stuck in the snow, it is important to remain in the car and it is important to know the emergency care policy of your health insurance plan.
