I was just wondering what kind of cars you guys rent. Would you ever rent a Smart Car? I think those are the cutest cars ever, but the only car my family has rented was an Acura. (I think, haha).

Mid size for us mostly, but one time there was nothing but a truck available and it was a necessary trip. Not a choice I'd make on purpose for traveling.

If I have a schedule to keep, then I tend to go with something reliable. For distance driving, I want to have some comfort as well. if I am in town for a day or two and need something to get to a couple of appointments, then it doesn't matter a lot, as long as I can get back to the hotel and the airport.

Now, for recreation? Gimme me something fun and sporty. If the weather is nice and I am near the coast, I want a convertible if at all possible!

I did rent a Smart here in Berlin once, and it was the only time I was ever in an accident with a rental car. Fortunately the insurcance covered everything, but I was hit by someone anyway, it was not my fault. They are too small and uncomfortable for me, but I liked their transmision, because is just like the Formula 1 cars.

Since we almost always travel with extended family, and we have a baby, we travel in a mini van whenever we possibly can.

Unless I know I'm going to be driving a lot of people around, I usually go for small and cheap!

We saw them all over in Germany when we went in 2005. We rented a Polo which gave us 40 miles to the gallon. I don't think I would rent a Smart car because we come home with too many things and there is not much space for that.
