I usually just rent the economy or smallest car they have. Normally when I get there, they're out of them so I get the free upgrade.

I was rather annoyed about getting a free upgrade last time as I had booked the type of car that I wanted, I had even phoned to explain my needs. Then I ended up with something bigger and much more expensive in terms of fuel.

I can understand what justontime means. If I am staying in a town or city where parking is an issue I need a small car and I don't want to be given an upgrade.
