I prefer to patronize hotels or B&B's that are committed to eco-friendly practices. know there are web sites that list green accommodation, but I was wondering if anyone here had some personal favourites or personal experiences they could share. Are the green hotels a real shade of green or just greenwashed? Do you know of an out-of-the-way place that serves food from the garden and hangs sheets on a line, for example?

I think I'll take it into account the next time I stay at a hotel. My problem is that I usually stay with friends, and the times I stay at a hotel, is a complementary room, so I really don't choose the hotel.

I am generally unconcerned with a hotel's practices, unless they are grossly negligent, but the hotels in Boulder usually do a pretty good job of being authentically green in their practices, as is true of most of the mountain hotels in Colorado.

I just remember that in some places, they tell you that if you want to contribute with being green, then they will leave the used towels another day for your use. I usually do that, because since I'm the only one using them, I think it helps a little not to keep washing things that are still pretty clean.

Yes, many hotles are mentioning that option now, and it saves them money too. I'd like to hear about the B&B's that actually take produce from their garden and use solar heating, etc. I know of a few, but I'm sure that there are others in lovely places that I have yet to visit.
