Japan has been hit hard by the recession, but one industry is apparently booming - hotels that rent by the hour instead of the night and are known as "Love Hotels".

One hotel has an astonishing 257 percent occupancy rate and the entire industry is estimated to take in $40 billion per year.

It is a strange sort of concept but it if it works in Japan it is good to know that at least one industry is booming.

I guess it shows that an industry that caters for peoples most basic needs will thrive even in a recession.

Don't you have that type of hotel in USA too, I am sure I have seen a Judge Judy episode about a 'book by the hour' hotel.
