Like my alliteration? I went to China this summer and it was the 1st time I was going. The flight there was awful because I got motion sickness, so I slept.

China is great for cheap stuff, but let me tell you, the traffic is crazy! The cars don't look out for people, it's the people who look out for the cars. You can't just stand at the edge/end of a curb/sidewalk and walk across. It's seriously like Frogger..and the drivers are crazy, they drive so close to one another that I'm surprised that I wasn't hearing any _meta_l to _meta_l contact! I don't think I could ever drive in China.

Also, the pollution/air over there is pretty bad. I breathed through my mouth the whole time there! (but I think it's just me)

Wow, sounds like a great trip, Jess! Reply sometime and let me know what kind of place you stayed in and what kinds of things you did while you were there. I'd love to do some more traveling but because I'm a student I don't have a ton of money... so cheap is good!

Your whole breathing threw your mouth thing made me laugh because I've been known to complain just a tinyyyy bit when things don't smell good or clean, so I'm sure I'd be breathing out of only my mouth, too!

Reminds me of Mumbai (Bombay) India...the smells...i realized why so many women walked around with a hankerchief to their nose everywhere...and the traffic - YA - i remember once in a taxi, the taxi pulled out into on-coming traffic to get out of the traffic jam we were in... he just ducked out of the way in time to avoid a head on collision, while i was having a heart attack! LOVE THOSE PLACES - and cheap is nice too

Well, I went with a tour group in Hong Kong just to see the sights like Forbidden City, etc. We just stayed at a hotel that was okay..it wasn't too bad actually.

I liked China just because I bought my glasses over there, lol. It's so cheap, I mean, my eyesight isn't that great (it's around -500) and I got 2 pairs of glasses for only $60 CDN! And we asked for them to make the lenses thinner and everything and it was only that much! But don't buy contact lenses over there, lol, you don't know how clean those are....

Let me add another vote to being sensitive to stuff that smells bad or polluted. I am another sensitive soul that gets ribbed about noticing stuff like that; I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I had heard that the cars and businesses in China have no regulations regarding their pollution. Did you have a chance to get out into the country? Is the pollution less bad there?That would definitely be a deal breaker to me, unfortunately, about traveling there.

Yeh, I think that would be a place that I'd pass on as well. I'm not keen on going on vacay and then not being able to enjoy it b/c it smells. Breathing is a prerequisite for me.
