I'm not sure if you'd considered this "thrilling" but after a trip to Vegas I realized just how surreal the Grand Canyon was. It was like a picture postcard, it looked so perfect. The day we went the sky was a perfect blue, the temps were moderate (for Vegas) and the view was exceptional. If nothing else the trip was made for me, b/c I had the opportunity to see this majestic wonder in all its glory. Yeh, Vegas is big on casinos, nightlife and excess, but take a day and just enjoy the beauty of what nature has to offer and then the trip will definitely be worth the airfare.

That sounds much more like my sort of trip. I had never really thought beyond the casinos and that sort of life_style_ before.

John Wesley Powell once wrote:
The wonders of the Grand Canyon cannot be adequately represented in symbols of speech nor by speech itself. The resources of the graphic art are taxed beyond their powers in attempting to portray its features... The glories and beauties of form, color and sound unite in the Grand Canyon... It has infinite variety and no part is ever duplicated. Its colors, although many and complex at any instant, change with the ascending and declining sun... You cannot see the Grand Canyon in one view...but to see it you have to toil from month to month through this labyrinths...but if strength and courage are sufficient for the task, by a year's toil a concept of sublimity can be obtained never again to be equaled on hither side of Paradise."
