Knowing me I would be so inspired by the art work (assuming they had some) that I would be wandering around the castle all night looking at the paintings. I remember the first time I saw the Holbein portrait of Henry VIII at Belvoir Castle, I was spellbound, I could have stood looking at it all day and all night.

Belvoir... Grantham? Don't they hire that one out for weddings and stuff? The paintings sound wonderful! What other mediums of artwork do they have? I'll add it to my list for "when I get to Europe someday"

They have some very nice paintings including works by Gainsborough, Reynolds, Holbein and Poussin. By the way just in case you come to England we pronounce the name of the castle as 'Beaver'

Ah ha! Well now that one I wouldn't have guessed... although I should have known since I have Beauchamp in my ancestry that's actually "Beecham".

We live in the East Midlands (England) and we have some very confusing place names. A few years ago a colleague of my husband from USA came to live and work in England for a couple of years. He found our place names totally confusing eg Towcester pronounced 'toaster', Cogenhoe pronounced 'cookno' the list goes on and on. He visited various different areas and I think he found Cornish place names the most confusing of all.

Deltic, I agree place names can be very confusing. My husband grew up no more than 50 miles from my home town, yet there is a huge difference in accent and he finds my attempts to pronounce place names near his home very amusing. It must be very difficult for visitors from overseas.
