Hi!

I'm in Australia and planning to come up to USA in August. I was wondering what would be the easiest way to get from USA to South America (cheapest port to leave from)? Is it expensive? (USD$500+)?

Also, is it expensive to travel the Caribbean?

Thanks,
Tara

Miami and New York have roughly the same amount of flights to Central and South America with Los Angeles coming in third. More competition means better prices but in August you will be hard pressed to find tickets to any South American city from a U.S. gateway for under $500 and the few you would find will be barely under $500. South America still does not have enough U.S. traffic to see price wars like tickets to Europe.

Our summer is the slow season for the Caribbean, since people in our northern climes like to travel there for the sunshine. Summer can also be very hot and humid in many parts of the Caribbean. That being said, Caribbean travel in the summer is quite inexpensive, many times well under $120 US per day at the inclusive package resorts that include food, lodging and things to do. Miami is your best jumping off point to the Caribbean. Take a look at package brokers like Pleasant Holidays to see what they are running in the time _frame_ you are thinking about traveling.

Yeah, I was going to agree there. Miami is the best airport to fly to the Caribbean. Short flight too. Very cheap as well.
