Just thinking of California in general, friends who traveled there remembered Oceanside Harbor Beach as having the widest sand they had seen. They also said the water seemed very clean.

You might also want to check out healthebay.org for clean beaches in southern California. It's an environmental group that publishes a report card for the region's beaches.

Thank you for telling us about that, I was not aware of healthebay, I will have a look. Do the beaches display a sign or a flag if they score well on the beach assessment?

Heal the Bay publishes a weekly report on water quality. They assign a grade of "A" to "F" for each beach evalauted.
