My little cat is disabled (cerebral palsy), so it's especially important for me to keep her safe and comfortable when I travel.

We travel with our cat often but have the plastic carrier. What we did is put a nice mat in the bottom of it and then made a "pillow" (material stuffed with batting) to tie along the back of the carrier.

When it's put into a seatbelt, the carrier (and thus the kitty!) lean toward the back, so when it happens now, she has a pillow to lie against.

that's also a good idea Katharina, sounds comfy enough to me! I guess though if you are flying you would need something different.

I use pet carriers for transporting my cats and small dog to see the vet or to go to kennels. I keep a stock of those puppy training pads to line the pet carriers (with extra padding underneath). They are soft and comfortable, but if the pet is sick (or worse) it is easy to remove the pad and dispose of the mess, then you can just put a clean pad in the carrier.

That is a good idea Deltic, one of my pets gets travel sick so I will try your tip next time I have to take him to the vet.

The only pet experience I have is with our cat and I didn't realize that they can get travel sick like humans! It makes me extra glad that our furbaby travels so well because I'm certain none of us would want to just leave her somewhere for 9 or 10 days.

Cats and dogs can get travel sick. My cat is sick on every trip poor thing. We only take him in the car if it is essential such as going to the vet. It amazing how much one small cat can hold!
