We used to go through luggage like some people go through clothes. Each year we would have to buy something new because the most recent purchase had fallen apart.

We aren't great world travelers, our trips are usually short so most baggage is limited to carry-ons. The main problem we found were the wheels on the luggage would break, fall off, or just be basically inadequate for going up and down stairs.

So we decided to stop being cheap, or some people may say thrifty, and buy really good bags.

We settled on a set of Samsonite luggage with very large wheels. The wheels make using stairs real easy and they have stood up to a lot of abuse.

These bags have lasted us almost 10 years now. Moral of this: you get what you pay for. Don't be stingy on the baggage purchase, you may not have to do it again for 10 years or so if you do it right the first time.

This is sooooo true! We bought very expensive luggage (like over $1,000 for 3 pieces) many years ago. At the time I thought my wife was crazy. But now many years later I can see that she knew what she was doing.
