One of my friends has faced that problem with ancestors from Cyprus. It is so frustrating. Are there any military or vocational records you could look for?

that is sad....I have got friends in bangalore and my husband did his graduation from there....it would be wonderful if you could really come down, just to know a little more about the place your ancestors lived...

Atula, do you know if Bangalore, Fyzabad and Trimulgherry are in the same region, or are they a long way from each other?

Bangalore is in a state called Karnataka and one of the most rapidly developing and posh cities of India. Faizabad is a small city in a state called Uttar Pradesh and Trimulgherry as you pronounce is actually a small city near Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh state.

Of this Bangalore and Trimulgherry are close to each other in Southern India, where as Faizabad lies in Northern India.

i think your family lived mostly in Southenr parts of India and may have travelled to Northern parts for some official visit or for avoiding the heat during the summers. Hope this helps.

I'm afraid not justontime.. they were just simple villagers, nothing special, so beyond a birth certificate there would have been nothing. As they were displaced when the Turks invaded in 1974, I don't think the church which holds those records even exists any more.

That is very sad Stav, if you can not find out about them as individuals perhaps it would help you to try to learn a little more about people generally who lived in that area at that time. I know my situation is a little different, but my great great grandfather was sent to the workhose after he was orphaned when he was little more than a toddler. His records no longer exist but I was able to learn more about the routine of a workhouse at that time, so I had a better idea of what would have happened to him. I hope that makes sense.

I really like what Justontime suggested. My mother used to tell me about her great grandfather who once was a landlord in present day Bangaldesh and had great estates there. There are ofcourse nbo records to prove that but going there and seeing the lives the people lead may perhaps give me a better understanding of my ancestors lives.
