The crown of the Statue of Liberty is set to reopen for the first time since the September 11 attacks.

The crown will reopen to a limited amount of visitors starting this Independence Day.

If you plan on going, you should be advised that the National Park Service expects between 10,000 and 15,000 people to visit Liberty Island on July 4th alone! On any given day, though, only 240, in groups of ten, will be allowed to climb the 354 steps to the crown and gaze out its 25 windows.

It is nice to know that things are getting back to normal. It sounds as if it would be best to wait a while before planning a visit.

I didn't even know it had been closed. It will be a big boost to be able to go back to normal. It must have been very disappointing for those tourists who went hoping to go inside in the last few years.

that is good news for many who go all the way to see the Statue...but that is a good warning not to go this weekend but someday else when you can atleast hope not to get trampled by the huge crowd...:_b_link__:

I hope the people who turn up this weekend will not be too disappointed. Was it well publicised that access would be strictly limited?

would be a shame if people turn up and find they can't get in.. hopefully they made it clear.
