I am one of those people who has to plan ahead, but often peple tell me that they do not plan they just set off and see where they end up. What are the benefits of a trip like this?

Spontaneous trips used to be a lot more fun in the past than they'd be now, I'm afraid. Too much to plan now. I guess the only benefit (at least that I can think of) would be the excitement and fun of doing something so much "out of the blue."

I still plan short spontaneous day trips, but not vacations.

I think having children and animals to consider makes it more important to plan, but perhaps I am just one of lifes planners.

That makes it more difficult, yes, but not impossible. I have a master list for packing and I could pull that out for a spontaneous trip as well as for a planned one... it's just not as much fun as it used to be.

I have a packing list too, but I like to have time to plan my packing and make arrangements for the pets etc, so our trips are planned months in advance.

As it is just us.. we can easily say on a Thursday.. shall we go to Scotland/France/Wales this weekend? and just go..

Even with a big holiday, we tend to leave it till quite late to book, and would probably be even later if we were not concerned about finding a flight.

THe way it is at work, I often have to re-organise trips if they need me for something.
