Saturday, 04 October 2008
shoes If you fly out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) , you might hit it lucky and – hold onto your hat – be asked to leave your shoes on while passing through security.

Starting this summer, tests have been run on a machine called “The PassPort” which is supposed to detect the presence of any explosives that might be used in a shoe bomb. Bridges are awe-inspiring, combining engineering brilliance with – when done well – architectural beauty.  Travel & leisure recently offered a slide show presentation of ten great bridges, and while you may not plan your entire trip around one of these modern marvels, they're well worth checking out when you’re in the area. Pay attention to room location at check-in. “Don’t get a room by the elevator or ice machine. You will feel the vibrations all night long. It may not be apparent at first, but, believe me, when the lights are out, it will be,” Wysong writes. “[And]  if the hotel has a disco, make sure you get a room at least two floors away. I can’t tell you how many nights in South America I tried to sleep to the beat.". Another idea, close your curtains -  “Because the number of unwitting strip shows that I have been privy to and likely that I have provided myself through the years, is plentiful.”
