Remember Article 240
Thursday, 19 June 2008
airline ticket Some tips are worth repeating, and so weíd like to remind you once again to remember Article 240 when an airline cancels a flight. A leftover from the days when airlines were subject to regulation, Article 240 states that in the event of any flight delay or cancellation caused by anything other than weather, the airline will give you a seat on the next available flight Ė on any airline, not just theirs.

Many travelers now travel with a copy of Article 240 printed out to show to airline staff, because a lot of airline personnel arenít aware of the rule (and, letís be honest, airline management isnít going to jump at the chance to pay for your seat on a competitor, so they often plead ignorance).† And donít let anyone tell you that the rule is out of date or no longer honored by airlines Ė it still stands with most of the older domestic carriers,† and savvy travelers are ready to pull it out if they need it.
