If you find yourself trying to sleep in a hotel room with inadequate air conditioning – or no air conditioning at all – you can cool down by taking a cold water bottle and laying it on your pillow next to your neck. It’ll cool down your entire body so you can start counting sheep. You can use the same idea during sweltering daytime traveling. If there are no cool water battles handy, a soaking wet napkin, cloth or handkerchief placed on the back of your neck can give you some comforting cooldown and help you avoid overheating.

The company, Kilauea Caverns of Fire, specializes in taking visitors down into a 36-mile subterranean labyrinth on the Big Island, formed between 500 and 700 years ago during the decades-long eruption of Kilauea Iki crater.
Kilauea Caverns of Fire’s three-hour Adventure Tour is designed for folks who are in excellent physical condition – there’s a great deal of climbing, scrambling up and down boulders, and belly-crawling through two-foot high tunnels. Those who are less robust can still enjoy the lava tunnels though, by taking the less challenging 75-minute walking tour. Either tour is a great way to enjoy a uniquely Hawaiian experience available nowhere outside Hawaii. |
