BA introduces holding fee on flights

British Airways has introduced a program that allows customers to pay £5 ($8.29 USD) to hold a flight booking for up to three days while they decide if they want to purchase them. This holding fee service was announced by British Airways and Iberia on August 21. The £5 fee applies to short-haul flights; a £10 ($16.59 USD) fee applies to long-haul flights.

Risk of volcanic eruption in Ireland means airlines being warned of possible flight disruption

Airlines which use European airspace have received a warning from Iceland’s Met Office about a possible volcanic eruption. The office changed the threat level for an eruption to orange, which is rated a four out of five on the scale of threat. This brings to mind the chaos brought about when the country’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted in 2010. The ash cloud that resulted closed down most of the airspace in Europe for almost a week. It cost $1.7 billion and affected over 10 million people.
