Emirates Airlines suspending flights to Iraq city

Starting August 12, Emirates will no longer offer flights to Erbil in Iraq due to the unrest in the area. The reasons given are “operational” and the airline apologizes for any inconvenience. Anyone with a ticket can call Emirate call centers or their travel agent for rebooking possibilities. Last week, Air France stopped flying over Iraq air space, and Deutsche Lufthansa also made the announcement it would stop flying to Erbil.

Transportation Safety Board investigates a near-miss at Winnipeg airport

The TSB is looking into a near-miss between two WestJet flights on the runway of the Winnipeg International Airport. Around 9 am Monday, one WestJet flight, a Boeing 737, was approaching to land and a WestJet Encore flight with a Dash 8 was taxiing to the runway from the terminal. According to a spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board, it’s not clear at this time how they came close to each other, but the Dash 8 did encroach on the runway. The pilots of the Boeing 737 pulled up, flew over the runway, and landed safely on a second try.

Air Canada may resume flights to Venezuela

If all outstanding issues are addressed by the Venezuelan government, Air Canada says it may resume flights to the country that were suspended in March. Some of the issues that need resolution are passenger revenues being held. There is no guarantee Air Canada will offer those flights; the situation will be evaluated and a decision made based on all the circumstances. Approximately $1.4 billion is being held by the Venezuelan government despite international treaties.
