New security at Brussels Airport causes missed flights and delays

New security checks put in place at Brussels Airport have led to long lines and missed flights. The main airport opened a section of its main departure hall on Monday, increasing capacity to about 80 percent. Passengers are complaining, though, that police checks at the entrance to the building are causing delays and even a security risk as large crowds of people gather outside while they wait to be checked.

Air Canada makes amends after jacking up flights to For McMurray

Many Air Canada customers trying to connect with loved ones in Fort McMurray were in for a shock when they saw how much tickets were into and out of the area on May 3 and 4. Several customers tweeted and posted on social media sites how outrageous it was that the airline would charge almost four times the typical price during a time of crisis (the For McMurray fires). The prices rose from under $200 to over $700 to leave the area. Flights to Nova Scotia were listed at over CA$5,000.

Heathrow will ban night flights for third runway

Heathrow officials have announced plans to ban night flights in an effort to reduce the impact a third runway would have on the environment and local community. In a letter sent to the prime minister on Tuesday, the chief executive of Heathrow said it would support the introduction of an independent noise authority and promised not to add new capacity unless it can be done without delaying compliance with EU air quality limits. The letter said, “Expanding Heathrow can help Britain win thousands more jobs and ensure future generations have the same economic opportunity that we have enjoyed.”
