Hurricane Rina Cause for Flight Cancellations at Pearson
Sunday, 30 October 2011
As Hurricane Rina bears down on Cancun Pearson is seeing a number of airlines cancel flights to the region. WestJet 2580, Sunwing 511, and Air Canada 1254 were all due to depart Pearson International Airport on Thursday morning, but the flights were cancelled due to the hurricane.

Hurricane Rina has been downgraded from a Category 2 to a Category 1 hurricane, but it will still pack a wallop for the Yucatan Peninsula. The tourist destination of Cancun is bracing for the storm, with many tourists evacuating the area and residents stocking up on emergency supplies and rations.

This is the sixth hurricane of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season and the storm could dump between 20 and 40 cm of rain on the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. They are also expecting a possible storm surge of up to 1.2 meters.
