Air Canada makes amends after jacking up flights to For McMurray
Sunday, 08 May 2016
Many Air Canada customers trying to connect with loved ones in Fort McMurray were in for a shock when they saw how much tickets were into and out of the area on May 3 and 4. Several customers tweeted and posted on social media sites how outrageous it was that the airline would charge almost four times the typical price during a time of crisis (the For McMurray fires). The prices rose from under $200 to over $700 to leave the area. Flights to Nova Scotia were listed at over CA$5,000.

One customer said he paid $314 just a few days before. In a statement to the public, an Air Canada spokesperson said “It is not correct that we raised fares in response to this devastating situation.” Officials blamed it on a “computerized revenue management system,” and said anyone who paid premium fares will be contacted and offers a refund.
