Air Canada will discontinue flights to Rio after Olympics
Thursday, 14 July 2016
Due to falling Olympic Games demand and the weak economic environment in Brazil, Air Canada will be ending flights to Rio. The airline will end its three flights per week from Toronto to Rio in mid-October; daily flights to Sao Paulo from Toronto will be kept. Starting in December, it will replace older Boeing 763 planes with 211 seats with new Boeing 787 Dreamliners with 251 seats.

Passengers wishing to travel to Rio may do so with Brazilian codeshare partners GOL and Avianca Brasil.

According to spokesperson Isabelle Arthur, “Service adjustments are part of normal airline schedule planning and the number of flights across our network may vary at certain times of the year due to a number of factors including customer demand and aircraft availability.”
