American Airlines Goes Green
Thursday, 22 July 2010
American Airlines is furthering its commitment to go green with a recent order for 35 additional Boeing 737-800s. These aircraft are more fuel-efficient by 35% and they save approximately 800,000 gallons of fuel each year. The new aircraft also include Blended Winglets, which are extensions on the wingtips that reduce noise on take-off and landing, give added fuel efficiency, and help reduce emissions.

These new 737-800 are the most widely-used aircraft in the world and the airline already has 52 of these aircraft added to operation in 2010 and 84 were added to the fleet in 2009. With those expected to arrive, the airline plans to have a total of 195 737-800s in operation by the end of 2012.

The new aircraft will feature the new Boeing Sky Interior with bigger overhead bins, more spacious cabins, an increased number of AC power ports, and better inflight entertainment with Gogo Inflight Internet service.
