When traveling, especially overseas, roaming charges for cell phone use can add up quickly, leaving an unwary traveler with a huge bill at the end of their trip. This is particularly the case for text messaging and while some countries are implementing regulations to limit the cost of text messaging, many countries still have no limits at all. Of those that do, the European Union has limits that were put into place 2 years ago and that now see a very reasonable cap on text messages set at 11 Euro cents and data rates set at 1 Euro per megabyte.
These roaming fees cost U.S. businesses a whopping $693 per person per trip on average, which means that cell phone companies are making a mint each time someone travels and texts. European providers earn 3%-10% of their revenue from these roaming fees. For more information, please read the full article at Cnn.com. |
