French airline Aigle Azur will begin offering bi-weekly flights from Paris to Tripoli in March, according to president of Aigle Azur, Arezki Idjerouidene. Idjerouidene says they have been making plans for the route since 2009 and now he has sent a formal request to the Libyan civil aviation authority, asking for air traffic rights in Libya. This was granted and written confirmation is forthcoming. The first flight is set to take off on March 27. The airline operates both domestic flights in France and service to North Africa, but offering service to Libya is important to them. France and Libya have historical ties and before the revolution in Libya, French companies were contracted to take care of construction and maintenance in three Libyan airports, including Tripoli, Saba, and Benghazi. French secretary of state for transport, Thierry Mariani, says they want to continue their involvement. See the original Google News article for more details. |
