British Airways flights from Calgary and Vancouver might not be operating over the holidays this year due to pending strike action by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers(IAMAW). The members of this union have voted 88% in favor of strike action and can strike as early as December 17. The primary issue is one of money. Todd Haverstock, IAMAW District Lodge 140 General Chairperson, said that members of the union frequently work overtime hours without getting paid for them. While they are not telling people to cancel their flights just yet, they are cautioning that it is up to the employer now and they will strike if need be. Both sides will meet with a conciliator on December 13 and 14. See the original Google News article for more details. |
