 If you’re torn between traveling to Europe or buying a new car, why not do both? A little-known program called “overseas delivery” allows purchasers to buy a new BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volvo or Saab at the plant where it was made, then take a road-trip to a port city for shipment.By cutting out the middle man, you’ll save between 5 and 10 percent off the U.S. sticker price – that’s $3,375 off a $45,000 car if you take advantage of Volvo's 7.5 percent discount. Most programs include temporary registration and insurance, so you can drive your new car right out of the factory. In many cases, employees of the car company will even pick you up at the airport when you arrive. If you’re already planning on an auto tour of Europe, you’ll now have your own car, saving what you’d spend on a rental. The down side is that delivery from Europe to the IU.S. can take a couple of months – but many people are finding the savings are worth it. You can read more at the MSNBC site. |
