Carnival Splendor Out Of Service Until January 16
Tuesday, 16 November 2010
The Carnival Splendor has now been taken out of service temporarily. Carnival Cruise Lines announced its decision to cancel all voyages scheduled through until January 16, 2011 due to the need for repairs after a fire occurred in the engine room last week. All passengers who were booked to travel during this time will receive a full refund on their tickets and on their airfare and they will also receive an additional 25% discount on a cruise booked in the future. The cruise line is also helping passengers and travel agents find alternative cruise arrangements for those who were due to travel on the Splendor.

The fire happened on November 8 while the ship was off the coast of Mexico and was towed to San Diego. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by a team of professionals that include the engineers and technicians from Carnival Cruise Lines as well as the U.S. Coastguard, flag authorities, and the NTSB. Assisting the investigation are professionals from the shipyard where the ship was built and from the manufacturers who supplied parts for the engine.
