CDC Highlights Concerns Of Typhoid Fever
Friday, 11 September 2009
CDC The Journal of the American Medical Association recently published a research article by CDC researchers. The article focused on a study of U.S. patients that had typhoid fever between the years of 1999 and 2006. It was found that the majority of those who had typhoid fever had traveled internationally during the month prior to coming down with the disease and it was common that some of the strains were resistant to antibiotics. Of those people who had an antibiotic-resistant strain, most of them had traveled to South Asia, particularly to Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.

Typhoid fever is a severe disease generally transmitted by contaminated food or water and is caused by the Salmonella Typhi bacteria. It is important that anyone traveling to an area of the world that is at risk for typhoid fever, they should consult the CDC to learn what precautions and preventative measures to take.
