Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

| Wednesday, 27 May 2009 | |
In an effort to encourage Americans to live an active and healthy lifestyle, several non-profit organizations and federal agencies have gotten together to create National Get Outdoors Day. This year the event is taking place on July 13 and the main focus for this year is on people who are newcomers to the national parks and on youth, who they want to help to reconnect with nature. Those who take part in the celebrations will also be invited to EchO-Events, which is happening in certain locations and give them the opportunity to hike with rangers, go mountain biking, or learn how to fish.
In June 2008, National Get Outdoors Day was a large event, with more than 60 events being held and many thousands of youth and families getting out for all sorts of fun, including climbing walls, fishing, geocaching, and more. This year promises to be all that and more and, while the events are open to anyone, the primary target of the day's celebrations are those urban families who do not get to enjoy nature very often. Visit the National Get Outdoors Day website for a complete list of participating locations. |
