Washington D.C.'s Tidal Basin is famous for its lines of 3700 cherry trees and each year the National Cherry Blossom Festival brings people from all over the country and around the world to enjoy the site of these beautiful trees in bloom. This year the festival runs from March 28 to April 12 and more than a million people are expected to walk amongst the trees and enjoy the sight and fragrance they offer.
This year there are some new things in store for those attending the Cherry Blossom Festival. These include the new underground museum called the Capitol Visitor Center, which is the very first stop for those that are taking a tour of Congress. In addition, the The National Museum of American History has reopened after being closed for two years for renovations. In addition, at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum there will be an unveiling of a wax figure of Michelle Obama on April 7. Finally, there will be a special exhibit called "The Tale of Shuten Doji", that will be on display at the Smithsonian's Arthur M. Sackler Gallery from March 21 to September 20. |
