Comox Airport in northern British Columbia has seen a booming business lately thanks to a combination of charter flights to warm holiday vacations and flights to northern Canada's oil and gas fields. The increase in passengers has been more than 4% over last year with an additional 12,000 passengers flying this year. CEO of Comox Airport, Shirley de Silva, said that their level of growth surpasses that of most other airports. Many other airports will see a growth rate of less than 1% and Terry Stewart, a spokesperson for the Victoria International Airport, says that flat is the new up as they remain steady with their passenger count for the fourth year in a row. The challenge in Victoria isn't the outbound traffic, but that coming in. Flights to sunny vacation spots have been helping WestJet, which flies to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico, and Phoenix. Meanwhile, de Silva projects continued growth for Comox, reaching as many as 345,000 passengers by 2015. See the original Google News article for more details. |
