In recent years, Brazil has seen an increase in demands for flights to the country. This demand is putting a heavy strain on the country's airports and this is before the 2016 Olympics even begin. Over the past 10 years demand has increased 194% and it increased 16% in 2010. Since the airports are overloaded, passengers are bearing the brunt of the situation, as airports are crowded and there are many delays and increased prices to deal with. There are seven airports that require substantial renovations in order to improve them to a level that was promised by Brazilian officials when they won the bid for both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. The improvements are estimated to cost nearly A$4 million and officials are making assurance that the work will be done in time for the 2014 World Cup.
