Delhi Airport saw as many as 200 flight delays due to dense fog that settled in over the airport between 4:30 am and 8:30 am. Delays lasted well into the afternoon as traffic was backed with only one runway in use, causing traffic congestion. The airport sees about 900 flights every day and with the main runway taking on nearly the entire departure load for the morning hours, there was no way to efficiently manage the departures. The dense fog was rated CAT-III and visibility was reduced to 50 m for a portion of the morning. Departures are not permitted when visibility goes below 125 m, but when it comes to arrivals, international flights can land with a visibility of 50 m and domestic flights can land when there is a visibility of 75 m.
