Generally fog hits during the early morning or late night hours and as such, during the winter flights that can handle landing and taking off in the fog are scheduled in the late night and early morning hours. However, Monday morning saw clear conditions until after 9:00 am, which is when the fog usually lifts. A number of airlines were affected by the sudden change and delays ranged from one to four hours. Nine flights even had to be diverted. Between 10:30 and 1:30 both runways at the Delhi Airport were under CAT-II and CAT-III fog conditions. During this time RVR was 300-400 m. Airlines reported that due to air traffic congestion, they were backed up into the evening hours. See the original Google News article for more details. |
