After the security incident on Northwest Flight 253, Janet Napolitano, Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, issued a statement. In the statement, commendations were given to the passengers and crew of Flight 253, who reacted in such a manner as to avoid a potential tragedy. The Department of Homeland Security has now put into place addition security screening measures in response to the incident, ensuring that travelers have the highest level of safety possible. The Department of Homeland Security also addressed travelers and assured them that they can continue with their travel plans over the holiday season. Additional security measures have been agreed to at the state, national, and international levels and travelers who are entering the U.S. from an international location may experience additional security screening. These additional screening and security measures will vary from time to time and location to location with the intent of creating an unpredictable pattern. It is important for travelers to allow for extra time when checking in for their flights. |
