Dozens of Iberia flights have been cancelled Monday, thanks to the beginning of a five-day strike by workers who are upset over job cuts. The scene was fairly calm at Barajas Airport in Madrid because the airline had already rescheduled the flights of most of their passengers or given them a refund on their tickets. The staff holding the strike includes baggage handlers and flight attendants and they plan on holding strikes throughout February and March because the airline plans on axing over 3,000 jobs and cut salaries for airline staff. The strike action on Monday began with a demonstration at the airport, which was followed by an 8 km-march around Barajas, all the while telling reporters that the future of the airline and the airport were under threat. There have been a total of 415 flights cancelled between Monday and Friday and at least 1200 flights by other operators are affected due to the lack of handling services in Spanish airports.
