Emirates of the UAE flew a demonstration flight of their green flight as they flew a delegation from UAE to the 2011 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is being held in South Africa from November 28 to December 9, 2011. The flight was undertaken with the cooperation of coordination with providers of air navigation in seven countries. The flight was made green as the aircraft underwent special in-air and on-ground techniques that ended up reducing flight emissions enough to save more than five tonnes of CO2 compared to a flight operating under normal flight conditions. The techniques used include flying the most direct and optimal route, reducing the number and length of on-ground delays, using ground power during delays, ensuring uninterrupted ascent and descent paths, and making use of preferential runways and expedient taxis.
