USA Today is reporting that there will be almost 3,000 fewer domestic flights during the upcoming Thanksgiving travel season compared to last year. That works out to be about an 11% drop off which means that travelers will have fewer choices and possibly higher fares.Their report goes on to show that flights to many domestic airports will be off by more then 10% including Chicago O'Hare down by 13.3%, Houston Bush down by 10.4% and Dallas/Fort Worth off by 10.0%. Many routes that were available last year no longer exist as both American and Delta will have halted non-stop flights between Charlotte and New York LaGuardia airport. Another sign of the times is that more then 80% of domestic airports that used to have non-stop service during this holiday season to Chicago O'Hare will have fewer flights this year. As an example, passengers looking to fly between O'Hare and Spokane, WA, for Thanksgiving can no longer fly non-stop. United, which currently operates one flight daily each way, will stop on Nov. 2.
