Finding Room At the Inn
Tuesday, 16 January 2007
Although we always recommend booking all your travel in advance to avoid disappointment, hassles and price gouging, sometimes it isn’t possible. An emergency, a hotel snafu or a sense of adventure can sometimes land you in a city without a place to stay the night. If you are in this situation, where is your best bet to find a good place to stay at a reasonable price?
Our recommendation is to contact the local conventions and visitor’s bureau as soon as possible. Sometimes also called tourism boards or tourist information, these groups have but one purpose – to make your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. Usually their job is to make maps and local attraction information available to visitors. But many CVBs, as they are sometimes called, also maintain listings on all lodgings in the area and also, in some cities, maintain up-to-the-minute information on what hotels, motels and bed & breakfasts currently have room availability for the upcoming evening. This helps their local establishments find more customers and visitors find rooms that match their needs.

Of course, we’re also big fans of contacting CVBs when you are doing your trip planning in advance. They are always a bargain, sending reams of valuable travel information to you, usually at no cost. Check our local destination pages here at bargaintravel.com where we usually have Convention and visitor bureau or tourism board information for most of the locations listed.
