In its eighth year of operation, the Readers’ Choice Awards have seen more response this year than any other year. More votes were cast in more countries and in more categories than ever before. This means that the spas on the winner's list have undergone greater consumer assessment than ever before.

The Crystal Awards, which go the the top spa on each continent, saw many new faces, spas that did not win the award in 2009 and four of them had never won the award before. Votes for the spas were cast on SpaFinder's consumer websites around the world and via their publications and votes were cast for spas that the consumer has personally visited within the past three years.
