Flights Allowed Between Iraq and Turkey
Sunday, 27 November 2011
Iraq and Turkey have made an agreement to allow flights to begin between the two countries. This comes after a mutual flight ban had been in place, one that was the result of a dispute between the two countries regarding an Iraqi government oil company owed millions of dollars to Turkey. Iraq banned all flights from Turkey after Turkey issued a similar ban on Iraqi flights last week.

Negotiations between the two countries resulted in the lift of the ban and Thursday saw the first flights from turkey arriving at the airport in Baghdad. Iraqi aircraft will begin to arrive in Turkey on Friday. Turkish Airlines was one of the first international airlines to bring service to Baghdad after the U.S.-led wars in the country ended and Turkey is a major international gateway into Iraq.
