Iberia Airlines, based in Spain and part of International Consolidated Airlines Group, has to cancel 118 flights on Thursday. This was 36% of the scheduled flights for the day. The cancelations were due to the ongoing pilot strike, which is in protest of the new Iberia Express, a low-cost unit of the airline that is being launched to lower Iberia's labor costs and allow them to be more competitive in the market. Fortunately, the airline was able to arrange for alternative travel arrangements for the 10,000 passengers that were affected by the cancelations. However, Iberia's troubles may not be over yet as the Sepla union has said that they will call for new strikes if an agreement is not reached with management.
