Japan has been hard hit this past year, with the huge earthquake and tsunami that hit the country in March and the resulting meltdown and leakage from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. All of this has resulted in a struggling tourism industry as tourists who might have otherwise visited the country are staying away. In addition, the strong Yen has made the country a more expensive destination than usual. In an effort to encourage tourists to once again visit Japan, the Japanese government is considering offering 10,000 free flights to the country. The hope is that this offer will be the deciding factor for those who are sitting on the fence. The proposal has been put forward by the Japanese Tourism Agency and if accepted will begin on April 12, 2012.
