Get Me To The Hotel On Time
Monday, 13 November 2006
ImageWeek before last we talked about getting from your home to the airport and whet your options are there. This week, we'll talk about the flipside, getting from the airport to wherever you are staying.

If you are renting a car, be sure you have a good map of the area you will be traveling in. Maps can be purchased online at the travel section at Amazon.com. Familiarize yourself with the general layout of the city and the area you plan to be traveling. When you pick your car up at the airport, it is also a good idea to take one of the free maps that most car rental companies give out and have an employee draw the route to your hotel on this map. That emplyee may be the last person you see that speaks your language, so you can use the map to stay on course.

The most common way for travelers to get from the airport to where they are staying is via taxi or hotel transfer. Taxis are easily available, will take you directly to your hotel without stops and in most major cities have a fixed rate charge, but they are almost always more expensive than airport transfer services. Before booking any airport transfer service, you shoud confirm that the hotel you are staying at does not offer complimentary airport pickup. If they do not, then be sure to book your airport transfers in advance, since during peak times it can be hard to get a seat without a reservation. If you are not sure where to make advance reservations for hotel transfers, you can probably find them here . Our partnership with Viator allows you to buy airport transfers online for over 400 cites at the best possible price. Also, most airport shttles give a break for buying your return transfer at the same time to make it a roundtrip, so be sure to check.

If you are not pressed for time, want to save money and are good with maps, you may want to research airport public transportation. Most major airports have either bus or subway services to the city center. This isn't a good choice if your hotel is away from the city center and not close to public transportation, you expect to be exhauseted when you get there and don't want to deal with the possibility of trying to determine whether or not you are lost by asking people who may not speak your language.
