When planning your trip to the Islands, its always a good idea to visit an authority, a site that can sum it all up for you easily, in this case that would be Hawaii's official tourism site, Gohawaii.com. This site has a great calendar of events broken down by category and/or by island. There is also a trip planner with details on accommodations, activities, dining, shopping and of course golf.
The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau is another good resource, especially if you plan an extended stay or are planning on moving to Hawaii. Visitors to this site will find info on schools as well as business related issues.
Things to do and see when visiting Hawaii:
Pearl Harbor - the visitors center and Arizona Memorial are the main attractions here. Both are free to enter, and both draw huge crowds.
Hanauma Bay Marine Preserve - one of the most spectacular natural resources in Hawaii, it is dedicated to safeguarding the fragile marine life in the Bay.
Diamond Head State Monument - an extinct volcano that requires a 45 minute hike to the top, but when you get there, the views are breath taking.
Banyan Tree Park - make sure to take time to visit Lahaina to see this monster tree with 12 trunks covering over 200 feet.
Waikiki Beach - arguably one of the most famous beaches in the world.
Iolani Palace - the official residence of the Hawaiian Kingdoms last two monarchs - King Kalakaua, who built the Palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Lili`uokalani.
