Hawaii Gets Some Good Tourism News
Thursday, 29 April 2010
The Hawaiian Tourism Authority has announced good news for Hawaii's travel industry. It has grown substantially in the past year, with a 12.7% increase in total expenditures by people who traveled to Hawaii by air in March of 2010 over the same month last year, bringing it to $874.3 million. This is due to more people flying in and higher spending by visitors on a daily basis.

Of the Hawaiian islands, Maui has lead the way with the greatest increases, due to new flights added from Orange County, Los Angeles, San Jose, Sacramento, Edmonton, and Calgary in 2010 and additional routes that were added in 2009. Maui saw an increase of 14.2% in arrivals and 25.2% in spending; bring that total to $257.7 million.

The total visits from people traveling by air and cruise ship increased 9.3% from the previous year and all four travel markets showed increases, including those coming from Canada, the U.S. West, the U.S. East, and Japan.
