Heathrow will ban night flights for third runway
Wednesday, 11 May 2016
Heathrow officials have announced plans to ban night flights in an effort to reduce the impact a third runway would have on the environment and local community. In a letter sent to the prime minister on Tuesday, the chief executive of Heathrow said it would support the introduction of an independent noise authority and promised not to add new capacity unless it can be done without delaying compliance with EU air quality limits. The letter said, “Expanding Heathrow can help Britain win thousands more jobs and ensure future generations have the same economic opportunity that we have enjoyed.”

The Airports Commission recommend a ban on scheduled night flights from 11:30 pm to 6:00 am, but Heathrow proposed that the restrictions be in place from 11:00 pm to 5:30 am.
